Honouring Orange Shirt Day: A Step Toward Truth and Reconciliation

As we approach September 30th, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation — also known as Orange Shirt Day — we want to share our reflections and commitment ahead of this important day. This is a time for all Canadians to reflect, learn, and honour the children who never returned home, Survivors of residential schools, and the families and communities who continue to be impacted.

As a locally owned and operated insurance agency here in Abbotsford, our roots are in this community. We serve our neighbours, our friends, and our families — and on this day, we pause to acknowledge the history and ongoing legacy of residential schools. Reconciliation is not only a national responsibility, but also a local one.

Why This Day Matters

For more than 150 years, residential schools operated across Canada. Many children were taken from their homes and communities, stripped of their language and culture, and subjected to unimaginable hardships. The impacts are still felt today, across generations. September 30th is a solemn reminder that Every Child Matters.

Our Commitment

At Saxbee Insurance, we believe supporting local means more than just doing business in the community — it also means showing respect, standing in solidarity, and committing to reconciliation where we live and work.

This year, our team is taking time to:

  • Wear orange to honour Survivors and their families
  • Listen and learn from Indigenous voices and resources
  • Support local events that recognize this day

As your trusted local advisors, we are grateful for the community that surrounds us. On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we encourage everyone to take a step — big or small — toward honouring the past and building a more respectful, inclusive future.
