Fire Safety Reminders for Canada Day
The Canada Day long weekend is a time for celebrating — with barbecues, fireworks, and time spent outdoors in beautiful places like Squamish. It’s also a time to be mindful of fire risks that can quickly turn a good time into a dangerous situation.
To help you enjoy the day safely, here are a few essential tips:
Give your grill space. Keep BBQs away from buildings, fences, and trees — and never leave them running while unattended.
Fireworks require caution. Only use them in wide-open areas free from overhead branches or dry grass. Be sure to follow local fire restrictions.
Keep water nearby. Whether it’s a garden hose or a bucket, have a water source ready just in case.
Handle sparklers carefully. They burn hotter than most people expect. Always supervise children using them.
Don’t toss fireworks right away. Used or misfired fireworks should be soaked in water before being thrown in the trash.
Campfires need a full shutdown. Pour water over the fire, stir the ashes, and repeat until everything is cool to the touch.
At InsureBC Squamish, we’re proud to support our local community with insurance you can count on. Wishing everyone a safe and happy Canada Day!
