Celebrate Canada Day Safely
Canada Day in Victoria is all about enjoying the best of summer — whether it’s grilling in the backyard, gathering with loved ones, or watching the sky light up with fireworks. With all the fun, fire safety can’t be forgotten.
Before you celebrate, take a moment to review these important safety reminders:
Barbecues and buildings don’t mix. Keep grills at least a metre away from your home, fence, or anything that could catch fire — and never walk away while they’re on.
Choose safe spots for fireworks. Launch them in open areas, away from houses, trees, and dry brush. Always check your municipality’s fire regulations beforehand.
Stay fire-ready. A hose, bucket of water, or extinguisher should be close by any time you’re dealing with fire.
Sparklers require supervision. They might look harmless, but they burn extremely hot. Only allow children to use them under adult supervision.
Dispose safely. Dunk used fireworks and sparklers in water before discarding to avoid flare-ups.
Campfire rule: cool to the touch. When putting out a campfire, use water and stir the ashes until they’re completely cool.
From everyone at InsureBC Victoria, we hope you have a fantastic Canada Day. Let’s all do our part to stay safe and fire-smart this long weekend.
