Canada Day Fire Safety Tips

Canada Day Fire Safety Tips

Canada Day is a time to relax, celebrate, and enjoy summer with friends and family — whether it’s in the backyard, at the beach, or around the campfire. But with fireworks, BBQs, and open flames involved, it’s important to keep safety front and center.

Here are a few things to keep in mind as you celebrate:

Set up BBQs with care. Make sure grills are at least three feet from any siding, deck railings, or dry foliage. And remember — never leave a hot BBQ unattended.

Fireworks need space. Only use them in open areas, far from buildings, trees, or dry grass. Always follow local bylaws and check if there’s a fire ban in effect.

Water is your best backup. Keep a hose or bucket of water close when using fireworks, candles, or a grill.

Watch the sparklers. Children should only use them under close adult supervision, as they can burn at dangerously high temperatures.

Dispose with caution. Soak used or misfired fireworks in water before placing them in the garbage.

Campfires must be fully out. When you’re done, pour water over the fire and stir until the ashes feel cool to the touch.

At Saxbee Insurance, we want to wish everyone in our community a happy and safe Canada Day. Let’s celebrate responsibly and avoid any preventable risks.
